Conference Update

The AFAANZ Board wishes to thank our AFAANZ Members for the record registrations for our first virtual conference. We had 635 members and exhibitors register for our event over the 3 days. The conference had a plethora of highlights, including two highly engaging keynotes from Professors Christine Brown and Ann Tarca, numerous informative panels, and 282 presentations from AFAANZ members.

Thank you to our Platinum Sponsor: Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and our Gold Sponsor: CPA Australia for their support and contribution to the conference.  The plenary  address titled "The New Normal – The Future is Here" by Simon Hann and Dr Marcus Bowles and keynote address "Threats to the Accounting Profession - CPA Australia" by Dr Simon Eassom are available to be viewed on our conference website.

Congratulations goes to Elizabeth Carson, Paul de Lange and Norman Wong who were awarded Fellowship Membership of AFAANZ for their continuous contributions to AFAANZ. The Peter Brownell Manuscript Award winner Sarah Osborne and Eunice Sie Ning Khoo who won the Best PhD Award.  Also congratulations to the Best Paper Award winners and also the new Outstanding Reviewers Award winners.  All winners and categories are listed here

There are far too many people to thank individually - but to all the presenters, panelists, keynotes, reviewers, sponsors and exhibitors - this conference would not be a success without you all. Also thanks to the SIG convenors who ran their own successful online events - and opened their seminars to include both SIG members and non-members.

And special thanks to Tom Scott and Yaowen Shan for taking the reins this year - and to Jacqui Bates and her team at OnAIR for bringing it all together online.  The online Doctoral Symposium also was a success with 32 students taking part over 2 days - thank you to Marvin Wee and Maria Dyball for coordinating this event and the 14 faculty who volunteered their time to run the PhD student group sessions.

As our main sessions were recorded; the sponsor keynotes, plenary sessions and panel sessions are available to be viewed on our conference website page. These will be available until the end of August.

I hope you're all looking forward to Melbourne 2021 to celebrate our "60th" anniversary!

2020 Performance Management Association (PMA) Conference & Special Issue of Management Accounting Research (MAR)

Performance Measurement in Dynamic Environments

The 2020 PMA Conference and related Special Issue of MAR welcome research on performance measurement and management in a dynamic environment. In a dynamic environment, designing effective performance management systems is inevitably even more challenging. The research addressing this challenge is concerned with how performance measurement is or could be used in fast-moving environments. Technological disruptions; globalization (or recent impediments or reversals in some cases, such as ‘reshoring’ and ‘slowbalization’); new forms of collaboration between organizations in supply chains and in broader networks of organizations; availability of more data through social media and the Internet of Things, are but examples of such challenging contexts.

We are interested in a wide range of topics and we welcome studies drawing on any relevant theoretical source discipline and employing any relevant research method, including case/field studies, surveys, archival studies, experiments, ethnographic and historical papers, as well as strongly conceptual descriptive work or thought pieces.
